SILKSTONE WAGGONWAY

The Waggonway brought wealth into the Village of Silkstone.

One of only eleven in England with stones in situ, it carried coal and coke down to the Canal at Cawthorne, and materials and equipment for the coal and other industries from 1809 to about 1860.

The full story has been thoroughly researched over many years by The Roggins Local History Group and has been further researched by the Heritage Silkstone Group during 2012, 2013 and 2014.

A new information display panel has been provided in the Church on this theme.
